Application & Process
The Laboratory-scale colloid mill is designed to reduce the particle size of solids in suspension within a liquid or to decrease the droplet size of a liquid suspended in another liquid. This is achieved by applying high levels of hydraulic shear to the process liquid, which enhances the stability of suspensions and emulsions. The colloid mill is versatile and is used for various applications, including superfine grinding, homogenizing, emulsifying, dispersing, mixing, and extracting liquids, ointments, and highly viscous products in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and emulsion industries.

The product is fed into a hopper, directing it into the gap between the rotor and stator. Here, the product experiences a high degree of shearing, cutting, and rubbing against the toothed metal surfaces of the rotor and stator as it moves toward the discharge section. The processed product continuously exits the mill through a drain pipe, and if necessary, it can be recirculated using a three-way cock and recirculating pipe assembly.
